Dad's Day

Jake and I had a good weekend.  On Saturday we went to our one day "labor and delivery" class.  Learned lot's - put me at ease about some things, and made me pretty nervous about others!

Pam and Jay made Jake some Father's Day cookies - our favorite sugar cookies.  They're "baby hands"!!  Pretty dang cute.
Baby hand cookies - thanks Pam!

Jake and I went up to the cabin with our buddy and best man Josh on Saturday night and enjoyed the beautiful weather and serenity.  Saturday morning Jake and I power walked the trails towards Simax beach - although we were halted and didn't make it the entire way due to the mosquitos!  Then Jake jumped in the frigid Crescent Lake to practice his open water swimming while Josh and I canoed next to him.  Jake is getting ready for a triathlon called Tri at the Grove at the end of July.

We got home Sunday afternoon and went over to my parents' house and put together my dad's new BBQ!  It was so funny - Jake and my dad had on the same t-shirt from Hood to Coast in 2003.  Jake humored my dad in the photo by trying to appear shorter.....Happy dad's day!

Wine

I really miss drinking red wine.  So when my friend Angela suggested I try alcohol free wine I thought - why not!?  I know it's ok to drink a little wine now and then when you're pregnant.  However, I've been playing it safe - why be a teaser?  This stuff really tastes nothing like decent wine, so it really wasn't a comparison.  I think I'll probably stick with having a sip of Jake's now and then.  But it's still novel to try.  We tried the Merlot tonight - tastes a bit like watered down grape juice.  I hear the Champagne is better though - we'll see tomorrow!

Escape to Bend

Jake and I just got back from a great weekend in Bend.  The best part?  We had NO plans.  It was nice to sleep in, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then just hike and do whatever we wanted.  We ended up going to Smith Rock to hike.  Embarrassingly I had never been there before.  It was gorgeous and the perfect day to go.  Not only was the weather amazing, the temperature was about 65-70 and the parking fee was waved for the annual "free fishing weekend". Score!  We had a great breakfast at Alpenglow and a really good mediterranean dinner at Joolz downtown.  Here are some pictures.
