2 weeks old

2wks old!

Today Peter is two weeks old.  Wahoo!  I can't believe that according to my due date I should still be pregnant.  So glad I've been getting to hang out with Peter this August.  Wishing it was a little bit cooler.  It's hard to want to go for a walk when it's so hot out!  Our house has been getting really toasty and muggy.
Yesterday Peter's belly button fell off.  Totally caught me by surprise!  I was just used to that little nubbin.  A sign that he's growing up though......Not sure what to do with it.  Save it?  Toss it?  I guess probably toss it........any thoughts out there?

Belly button/umbilical cord......
No belly button/umbilical cord!
We had a lactation consultation and she feels Peter is getting stronger.  Still not totally full term in the way he is breast feeding, but getting better!  He surpassed his birth weight and now weighs 7lbs 1ounce - yahoo!  Feeding still feels like an hour long process with breast feeding, supplementing with a bottle and then pumping.  But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  It's going to be so nice to just simply breast feed.  Can't wait.  It is nice to have some milk in the freezer now though........

Peter's smile - can't get enough
I love sleeping on daddy's chest

Look out!

The last 12 days

The last 12 days have been amazing.  Sleep deprived, but amazing.  Last week we had to take Peter back to the hospital because he had jaundice.  He got to suntan under the lights for about 21hours.  Up until the time where we had to put him in the light bed, I felt fine, totally assured that this was not a big deal.  But as soon as I had to put him down I just felt really emotional.  I know that jaundice is common and easy to treat, but it made me feel horrible that we had to bring him back here!  Alas, he has recovered really well and is doing great - no tinges of yellow anymore.
Getting a suntan! The lights help to breakdown the billirubin because the liver is having a hard time doing it on its own.

We aren't sleeping much - for some reason Peter thinks that 1:30am is a great time to be social and he doesn't like to be put down.  However during the day he conks out and can hardly stay awake.  Hmmmm.  We are still on cloud 9 though and loving every minute of it.
